THE KARSTAWAY SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT
THE FARM
The Karstaway farm is just a stones throw from the The Karstaway house and classrooms. In the centre of the Yima valley it is a community farm for everyone to learn more about sustainable food production.

KARSTAWAY SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT

INTRODUCING OUR SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT
As China has developed, like many Western countries, populations have become more
disconnected from natural food production. The Karstaway organic garden in Yima serves
to educate students and the community about safe, sustainable food practices in a fun, interactive and inspiring way.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Students will start their day in the classroom where there will be given a brief
presentation on the importance of sustainable food production and how organic and small
holder farms can play a role in this.
Students will then be taken on a walk through the farm introduced to the different plots
and what is being done there and why.
The group will then be broken into smaller sub teams. Each team will work on a different
farm activity. The groups will rotate between the activities. Each group will carry out
various farming activities, depending on their age, the size of the group and how long
they have available to dedicate to farming.
On a full day activity students will return to the classroom to work on a group project
